Scots tennis teams finish out their seasons strong, but Union sweeps the courts at AAC championships

Both teams named NAIA Champions of Character
The AAC tournament was the end of the road for both the men and women’s tennis teams this year. Tennessee Weslayan knocked off the Covenant men in the second round by a score of 5-1. The women advanced all the way to the finals, but finally met their match in the Union College Bulldogs.
The Lady Scots got the best of Tennessee Wesleyan en route to their championship berth, but Union, a perennial powerhouse, proved too much for them in the end, shutting out Covenant 5-0.
Casey Cochran was named to the All Conference team, the only Covenant woman to receive the honor. Jane Shibley was named to the All Sportsmanship team for her demonstration of character throughout the season. Shibley and teammate Julia Myers were both honorable mentions to the All Conference team.
The Lady Scots didn’t just work hard on the court this season, however. Myers, Shibley, and Chelsey Schortmann were all named to the All Academic team.
After a 2nd place finish both in the conference tournament and regular season, the Lady Scots were awarded the Champions of Character award.
On the men’s side, Adam Herberich received the distinguished Duard Walker Sportsman of the Year Award for his efforts on the court. Apparently he’s a swell guy to compete against, too, as he also made the All Sportsmanship team. Finally, he was the only honorable mention for the All Conference team.
Josh Jeremiah did it all for the Scots this year. Not only was he Covenant’s lone selection to the All Conference team, but he was also the only Covenant guy to make the All Academic team.
It wasn’t just the Lady Scots who impressed AAC coaches by their sportsmanship on the court, however. The Covenant men also took home the NAIA’s Champions of Character award. Well done, fellas.
Both teams had phenomenal seasons this year, and the Scots are already hungry for next year, when they will get another swing at Union.
