Senior Profile: Kyria Johnson

Great athletes have a way of transcending athletics, and bringing more to the field than just hard work and unmatched skill. They exude great sportsmanship, attitude, and personality on and off the field that cannot go overlooked. Regardless of talent level or career success, a truly great athlete is one that almost no one contests.
Kyria Johnson is one of those athletes, and this became evident when she was named All-American for her success on the soccer field.
The middle defender was a part of four winning seasons in her career at Covenant, and held together the defense like gorilla glue. She was a part of 48 wins for the soccer team, and did it all with a gracious attitude towards nearly everyone else on and off the field.
An equal measure of her success came when she was voted the AAC Champion of Character award winner last year. You can look around and see dominant athletes at the collegiate and professional levels, and most of the time you see attitudes of arrogance and selfishness. Johnson is one of the exceptions, however, and her years as a Covenant soccer player will not soon be forgotten. Our congratulations to her on helping to maintain the level of success that coach Mark Duble has established for the women’s soccer program. We can only hope that players like her will continue to grace our field.
