AdvertisingThe Bagpipe is the student-run newspaper of Covenant College. It is published 25 times per academic year. Each print issue is at least 8 pages, including four pages in full color. The Bagpipe is distributed in print free of charge to all 1000 students at the College, as well as to faculty, staff, administration, and visitors. We also sometimes distribute copies to local coffee shops such as Starbucks and Grayfriars. Readership has always been extremely high, but recent improvements to the paper have taken student and staff readership to unprecedented levels. The Bagpipe offers two types of advertisements: Display (print) advertisements and Internet advertisements. With the print edition of the Bagpipe reaching over a thousand people on a weekly basis, it makes a great advertising opportunity. We are in the process of developing a richer website with regular video content and rich interactive functionality, so we are also looking for web advertisements. Hundreds of alumni regularly read the online edition of the Bagpipe, and hopefully with our new vision the site will soon become a hub of student and faculty discussion as well. Display AdvertisementsDisplay advertisement sizes and prices are based on column inches (col. in.). One col. in. is one column wide (1.875”) by 1” high. Each page is broken into five columns with four gutters separating them. Display advertisements spanning more than one column include an additional 0.1825” per gutter (2 columns = 1.875” x 2 + 0.1825” = 3.933”). The smallest display advertisement available is 8 col. in. for $24, based on a base rate of $3 per column inch. The next smallest display advertisement is 10 col. in. for $30. Each advertisement must fit within the boundaries of one, two, three, four, or five columns; those not fitting will be shrunk proportionally to fit and will be charged the previously agreed upon price. The minimum height for an advertisement is 2 inches. Prices for Common SizesTo make the design process easier, The Bagpipe encourages advertisers to choose from the following common display advertisement sizes:
We may under special circumstances allow other sizes to be published (at the base rate), but we encourage advertisers to use these standard sizes. These prices are for non-color display advertisements. Color display advertisements cost 125% of the above prices ($30 for a Baby Eight in color, $37.50 for an Eighth-page in color, etc.) Options for common sizesThere are several ways of configuring the common-sized display advertisements:
Exact measurements are subject to the capability of computer software. Frequent display advertiser discountFrequent display advertisers get a 2 percent discount per issue advertised in, subtracted from each bill. For example, placing a display advertisement in 6 issues yields a 10 percent discount on the 6th one. If you take out 6 quarter-page display advertisements, the cost of the 6th issue will be $45 – 10% = $40.50, and you will have saved $13.50 over the course of those 6 issues. The minimum number of issues to receive a discount is two (so, you will receive a 2 percent discount on the 2nd issue). Placing an AdvertisementTo place an advertisement, or for more information, contact Zach McElrath, Editor in Chief for The Bagpipe), by e-mail (bagpipe at covenant dot edu), or mail: The Bagpipe Box 169 14049 Scenic Highway Lookout Mountain, GA 30750 Form of Submission and Design FeeWe prefer to receive submissions via email in JPG, TIFF, or PDF format. As a last resort, advertisements may be submitted on a piece of paper that can be scanned by a typical computer scanner. Advertisements must generally be submitted by the Friday prior to publication. Payment and Late FeeYou should receive an invoice within 14 days of publication. Please return a check payable to “Covenant College”, Memo: The Bagpipe, to the above address. Two copies of the print issue advertised in will also be included as proof of publication. Payment is due in full within 45 days of the publication date. After that time, a 10 percent fine will be assessed for each 30-day period that the payment is late. Prices and terms apply through December 31, 2009.
