“Garden”

I saw a garden in bloom

Where birds sang an everlasting chorus

Where streams shine under the moon

Pouring into the river of life around us

In the Garden there was life

There was life unopposed

A trove of blessings within our grasp

But our fists were simply closed

We creatures, in pride we dwell

Holding what we cannot fathom

We leave paradise for a seashell

Forsaking glory for a chasm

A distant memory of the songbirds

A whisper of wind in the trees

Carries the melody of former freedoms

Yet a curse still binds our knees

We try to crawl back to the Garden

To the place we always crave

Yet the pain that is our burden

Seeks to draw us to the grave

There will be another Garden

This one better than before

One where hearts will never harden

With only love forevermore

I remember the former Garden

The one I left in arrogance

Yet I know there’s hope of pardon

In my land of inheritance

In this wondrous land abounding

There are animals ever sweet

Where the beast is but a friend

And the birds there always tweet

I see the green grass meadows

Where birds and beasts play

By stingless bee and thornless rose

Away from want and care and pain

There will be another Garden

This one better than before

One where hearts will never harden

With only love forevermore
