Students Spend Easter Weekend in Diverse Ways

Just like most things this school year, Easter Break looked a little different than in the past. Though for most, whether a returning or new student, this Easter was reminiscent of days pre-COVID-19, since students were given the chance to go home for the weekend or stay on campus with their friends.

For those few students who stayed on campus over Easter weekend this year, there was a chance for a late night hike on Saturday and a Sunrise Easter Service on Sunday led by some students  that live on Ekklesia.

In addition, there was a lunch with the Multicultural Program in Blackwatch Gardens. Isabel Gregiore ’23 attended the lunch after going to New City East Lake’s Easter service with some friends. She said, “Aly Faulk with the Multicultural Program made a beautiful and delicious meal for any students staying on campus. It was a really great time of fellowship and yummy food!”

A lot of students, especially those that went home for the weekend, decided to get their COVID-19 vaccine, all very excited about the idea of returning to a safe normal.

One thing in particular that happened over the weekend that helped keep everyone’s spirits up was the full building check that was done in Founders Hall. It started off on Friday night, when an RA of the building led a group of students through all of the halls to check on students in a way that was almost like an event. For most freshmen, it was the first time that they had ever seen the other halls beyond their own. It was fun and led to a few relics being stolen temporarily.

The weekend also provided a welcome break in the semester so far. One student, Anya Klumpenhower ’24, had the chance to spend the weekend with her cousins. She said that most of the time was spent hanging around the house and playing with her cousin’s one-year-old. The break gave her the chance to relax after spending the week recording the songs for the Theatre Department’s latest production, “Six Tragedies.”

She said, “It was right in between recording week and filming week for ‘Six,’ so the break was very useful, and I know it helped the cast feel more energized in their performances.”

The overall feel of the weekend was a well deserved break that could have been a bit longer. The students enjoyed their chance of taking a few days off and spending time with their families or friends nearby.
