Super Seniors Score For Scots Soccer

The Scots soccer team endured a rough start to the season, but last weekend completely changed the outlook for the senior-laden team. After an 0-3-1 start that included an away game at #22 Christopher Newport, the men’s team traveled up to Kentucky to play in the Bob Allen Nissan Classic.

The Scots faced the Centre College Colonels, ranked #4 in the country, in the first game of the tournament, and any doubts about the talent of the away team were dissipated almost immediately. Covenant dominated possession and the shots on goal in the first half, and were one incredible save away from a lead going into halftime.

They had been in this position before, and failed to capitalize in their season opener against Emory, but they made no such error on Friday night, winning 1-0 off of a superb solo goal from super-senior Parker Owen. The Scots rode that upset high into their game against Spalding University on Saturday and ran the Eagles off the field 3-0, led by fellow super-senior Jake Major’s first career hat-trick.

While the first stretch of the season was certainly a disappointment for a Covenant team with high expectations, this last weekend showed the high ceiling that this group has.
