On Monday, Sept.15, the U.S. Department of Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery program awarded Chattanooga, along with 72 other cities, a $400,000 grant to assess the feasability of a light rail system that would utilize the city’s old rail lines. An additional $300,000 was given by the city to complete an estimated $35 million dollar study that will examine factors like demand, fare structure, and route tactics.

This year, Carter Hall opened a new advising space and student area: the Center for Student Success. Designed by the Dean of Students Brad Voyles and the Director of Academic Support Janet Hulsey, this center hopes to serve students in need of tutoring or personalized academic guidance, and also provides specialized attention for those with learning difficulties. The Center is located at the end of Carter Hall in room 143, and has space available for studying and test proctoring.

This summer Covenant officially announced the cancellation of plans for a Covenant branch campus in Indonesia. In an email sent on July 3, President Halvorson informed all faculty and staff that Covenant would no longer be pursuing “the establishment of a branch campus of Covenant College in Indonesia.”

Covenant College is thrilled to welcome back Bishop Henry Luke Orombi as the Neal Conference speaker. Bishop Orombi spoke at the Neal Conference once before in 2007. The Neal Conference is held annually at Covenant and seeks to develop true spirituality in the lives of students. Held in honour of Chuck Neal, who was influenced by Francis Schaeffer’s work True Spirituality, the Neal Conference brings in speakers who lecture on key facets of the Gospel. This year’s topic is “Where is Our Hope?”
