Covenant Loses Dear Community Member Bob Harbert

The small Christian context of Covenant College fosters deep relationships throughout campus. This opportunity for heartfelt community is one of Covenant’s unique qualities, including the exceptional faculty and staff. However, because of this small, tightly woven community, deaths heavily impact the campus. On Saturday, November 11, Covenant College lost beloved community member and friend, Bob Harbert, ‘78. Harbert is survived by children Allison Smith and Ashley Lesondak; siblings Michael Harbert and Sherri Kramer; grandchildren, Levi Smith, Caleb Smith, Myra Lesondak, and Paige Lesondak, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Covenant Students in the Gettys' Concert

On Saturday, October 28 at the Memorial Auditorium in Chattanooga, Covenant College students involved in Covenant Singers and Chamber Singers joined a choir of voices from churches all across Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain. All of these voices joined to sing with Keith and Kristyn Getty in their concert titled “Facing a Task Unfinished.” The Gettys are originally from Northern Ireland, but they currently live in Nashville, Tennessee. This concert is the first time the Gettys have ever performed in Chattanooga.

Harvey Weinstein Accused of Sexual Assault and Harassment

Recent allegations against Harvey Weinstein, American film producer and founder of the Weinstein Company, have indicated that he may be guilty of multiple counts of sexual harassment and assault going back as early as the 1980s. Victims of Weinstein’s escapades include Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, and Rosanna Arquette.

Carter Hall Renovation and Rededication

Most of us current students at Covenant College don’t remember Carter Hall not being under renovation. We don’t remember the rickety spiral staircase up the tower or the Washington Monument-like dome. However, renovations are finally and officially done, and late Thursday afternoon, October 5, marked a brief rededication ceremony.

California Becomes First Sanctuary State

On October 5, California Governor Jerry Brown passed legislation limiting who state and local law enforcement agencies can hold, question, and transfer based on immigration status at the request of federal immigration authorities. Communication between California police and Federal officials about immigration status will be prohibited, and undocumented immigrants will be safer from deportation.
