Senior Superlatives

On Thursday, November 30, 2023, a longstanding tradition of Covenant College took place in the form of the Senior Social. Put on by Senior Class President Lucy Sicks and hosted at the Historic Church on Main Street, many members of the graduating class of 2024 gathered together to celebrate those who would be graduating in December. The night was a formal gathering where students gathered to play bingo, to recognize those graduating this December, and to hear a word of encouragement from President Brad Voyles.

Perhaps the most anticipated aspect of Senior Social was the presentation of Senior Superlatives. The seniors had voted on each of the presented categories before the event, and the results were presented after the conclusion of the bingo games. The categories were Most Likely to Win a Reality TV Show; Best Bromance; Class Clown; Most Likely to Survive the Hunger Games; Most Likely to Sleep through an Earthquake; Most Likely to be Famous; Best Listener; Best Dressed; and Most School Spirit.

Many of the selections were far from unanimous, and some even had to be split between two or more winners. The most drastic example of this were the winners of Most Likely to Win a Reality TV Show. A total of four students were selected: Tressie Chandler, Sam Powell, Michael St Germain and Holly Raup. Other superlatives with multiple winners were the categories of Best Dressed and Best Listener. The voted-on Best Dressed were Victoria De Lima and the Bagpipe’s very own Editor-in-Chief, Charity Chaney. The winners of Best Listener were Casen Bailey and Violet Cromer. Best Listener was not the only superlative Bailey came away with from the evening, as he was also voted Most Likely to Be Famous.

Other selections included: Emma Kalbfleisch as the Most Likely to take their BeReal in Class; Rachel Bartlett as the Most Likely to Survive the Hunger Games; Walker Mathis and St Germain as the Best Bromance; and Claira Herweck as Most Likely to Sleep Through an Earthquake. Additionally, Noah Sweatman, the current student body president was voted as having the most School Spirit. Finally, Will Voyles, the son of our very own President Voyles, was voted as the Class Clown. Will Voyles neglected to attend the event, so the honor was accepted on his behalf by his father.

The night concluded with the honoring of the December graduates who attended the event with a mugging and a time of prayer for the work God is doing in their lives in the future. These December graduates include Reese Bradley, Herweck, Lydia Ledford, Sierra Casey, and Micah Cochran. Each of these students were presented an original John-Michael Forman mug and prayed for with hands laid on them by all the seniors who were present. Finally, all the seniors who attended were presented with the senior class sticker for the graduating class of 2024. The sticker was designed by fellow senior, Hogan Hickman. Overall the night was a pleasant time to acknowledge the seniors graduating in December and celebrate the movement of the rest of the seniors into their final semester at Covenant College.
