On Saturday, April 11, 2026, the Denver Pioneers, one of college hockey's premier teams, came from behind against the Big Ten's Wisconsin and won 2-1. The wildest part of this? This was Denver's third hockey national title in ... five years! Denver has turned into a dynasty, and it's largely because of coach David Carle. While only 36 years old, and younger than all the player's parents, he has cemented himself as one of the best college hockey coaches right now: "already approaching the Mount Rushmore of college coaches," as Joe Smith from The Athletic wrote. Even more incredible, this was Denver's eleventh title in hockey, the most in the NCAA!
In other small college sports news, Oklahoma won the womens gymnastics national title behind a gymnast who did not do a floor routine all season until the championship. This gymnast, Faith Torrez, also came home with the individual title. On the men's side, Stanford won its sixth championship in seven years. Because of this, Stanford has won at least one NCAA championship for 50 straight years. What an incredible record. For the individual title, Michigan's Fred Richard won it, marking his third individual title of his career.
In regards to a collegiate sport no one (including the writer) knew was a thing, Michigan State took home the mens and womens college dodgeball championships. And with womens bowling, Jacksonville State won their second national title in three years. The best part of this? Jacksonville State founded their womens bowling team three years ago. So in every single year since its inception, they have competed or won the national title. Incredible achievement for Jacksonville State's program.
