Following a 0-6 start to the season, Covenant’s softball team has rallied back to a 12-18 (4-4 CCS) record as of the writing of this piece. The Lady Scots are currently tied with Maryville and Asbury with winning percentages at .500.
To close the season, Covenant will host #11 Huntingdon at home for senior day before three consecutive double headers on the road at Wesleyan, Piedmont and Maryville.
Halfway through the conference slate, this season’s squad has already tied the total number of conference wins that the previous year’s team accumulated. The year over year improvement can be seen in the number of freshmen that the program has brought in.
Two Freshmen in particular have stood out on the conference level. Julie Mavity ’29 has been tabbed for CCS Rookie of the Week honors three times this season while Elizabeth Yother ’29 has earned Rookie of the Week and Pitcher of the Week honors.
As far as championship season goes, the Lady Scots are right in the mix to make it to the CCS conference tournament in Oxford, Alabama from April 29 to May 2. The top six of the nine teams in the conference will play for an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
The remaining games on Covenant’s schedule are quite manageable, especially if the Scots keep playing like they have in their most impressive outings, which include Yother’s first career shutout against Asbury in the second game of their double header, a run rule of Cairn in Myrtle Beach, and the Scots double header sweep against Agnes Scott at the opening of conference play.
The future is wide open for the Lady Scots as they go into the back half of their conference slate.
